Russian Internet: Deal Round-Up December 2007

The Russian online recruitment leader HeadHunter buys a majority in a recruitment site, while publishing houses Afisha and Independent Media take over sites for night clubbing community and women, respectively.

JobList.ruHeadHunter, the leading Russian online employment group, acquires a 51% stake in JobList.ru, a recruitment site with 1.5 million monthly visitors, for an estimated $2.6 million from AGAVA Software. The site has some 50 thousand vacancies and 40 thousand resumes.

HeadHunter, which reported revenues of $15.5 million in 2007, holds some 50% share of online recruitment market in Russia. HeadHunter could be a takeover target by the leading global online employment group Monster Worldwide that opened a Russian office in 2007.

Ameno.ru

Independent Media Sanoma Magazines, a Russian publisher of magazines that is part of SanomaWSOY of Finland, acquired Ameno.ru, a top five Russian website for women with 1.1 million monthly visitors, from a private founder. Ameno.ru first started as an astrology site for women and expanded into a portal in 2006.

NightParty.ru

Afisha, a publisher of entertainment magazines and part of the media group Prof-Media, acquires NightParty.ru, a website for night clubbing community with 300 thousand monthly visitors, for up to $1.5 million for private founders. NightParty.ru is said to be making $300 thousand per year from display ad sales.
