According to data from MindShare Interaction, the internet advertising market in Russia has doubled to $369 million in 2007. The search and contextual advertising accounted for $210 million or 57 percent of total spending while display (banner) advertising spending was $159 million (43 percent). The Russian internet advertising market is expected to reach $685 million in 2008.
The combined revenues of two largest Russian internet companies Yandex and Rambler is expected to reach $232 million in 2007, or 63 percent of the Russian internet advertising market. It’s estimated that Google earned $10 million in Russia in 2007 that is less than 3 percent of the total advertising market and about 5 percent of contextual advertising market.
Top Russian internet advertisers come from the following industries: mobile communications (Beeline, Megafon, MTS), cars (Nissan, Toyota, Peugeot, Volvo), mobile phones (Nokia), consumer goods (Wrigley, P&G), technology (Intel, IBM, Microsoft), telecommunications (Comstar), retail (Eldorado, M-Video, Evroset, Technosila), and financial services (Citibank, Maxwell).
The leaders in display advertising spending were car makers (25 percent of total spending), consumer good companies (18 percent), telecommunications and financial services companies (11 percent each).
