The Russian advertising market will increase to $17.2 billion in 2010 becoming the sixth largest advertising market globally after the U.S., Japan, UK, China, and Germany, according to a recent research published by ZenithOptimedia. Russia together with the other developing markets China, Brasil, and India have become the main drivers of global adspend growth.

The Russian online advertising spending will increase to over $1 billion or 6% of total Russian advertising market in 2010 while TV advertising spending will grow to $9 billion.

In the other news, the leading Russian online company Rambler Media has sold a 51 percent stake in its online display advertising agency Index20 to the largest Russian media advertising group Video International (VI).

Prior to the deal, Index20 handled all banner (display) advertising sales for Rambler’s web properties including Rambler.ru, Lenta.ru, Price.ru, and Rambler ICQ. Rambler entered into a strategic partnership agreement with VI‘s online advertising agency IMHO VI in October 2007.

Under the sale agreement, Index20 will generate a minimum of $40 million worth of advertising sales for Rambler in 2008 that will rise to a minimum of $60 million in 2009 and $90 million in 2010, to be adjusted according to predefined, market-driven targets. Rambler will have a three-year call option for 51 percent of Index20.
