Rambler Media that owns the second largest Russian search engine and portal Rambler has become the official title sponsor of the Russian Football Cup. The company signed a four-year strategic partnership with the Russian Football Union (RFU). The competition will now be known as the Rambler Russian Football Cup.
Football (or soccer) is the most popular sports in Russia. Rambler’s sponsorship will start with the semi-final matches of 2007-08 season on April 16, 2008. The final match will take place on May 18, 2008.
More than 100 teams participate in the annual competition. The winner plays against the winner of the Russian Premier League for the Russian Super Cup, and represents Russia in the UEFA Cup.
As a part of the sponsorship, Rambler will launch a dedicated website for soccer fans who will be able to exclusively watch the Russian Football Cup’s matches online.
The experts estimated a value of the sponsorship at $1 million per year.
In March 2008, the largest Russian social networking site Odnoklassniki.ru became a sponsor of FC Dinamo Moscow football club.
