Aureos Central Asia Fund (ACAsF), which is managed by private equity firm Aureos Capital, has invested $5 million in the Kyrgyz cable television company Ala TV, the fund announced on its corporate web-site.
Founded in 1999 as a joint venture between Metromedia International Group and local partners, Ala TV is a broadband operator that provides ‘triple play’ services: television, telephone and high-speed internet in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Metromedia disposed of its 53% interest in Ala TV in February 2003.
Ala TV has over 30,000 subscribers and the market leader in Bishkek. Its annual revenues are estimated at $4 million.
In September 2008, Aureos Central Asia Fund, which held the first closing of $50 million in 2007, invested $10 million for a majority stake in equipment leasing company Leasing Group in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
