The leading Russian internet company Mail.ru turned 10 on October 15, 2008, the company announced. Mail.ru received a telegram from Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia who congratulated its staff on the 10th anniversary.
Started as a web mail service, Mail.ru now also operates some of the most popular online services in Russia such as instant messaging service Мail.Ru Agent with 7 million monthly users, social network MoiMir@Mail.Ru with 25 million registered accounts, photo sharing service Foto@Mail.Ru, video sharing service Video@Mail.Ru, blogging service Blogs@Mail.Ru, and online gaming service Games@Mail.Ru.
Mail.ru, which has 52 million monthly users, is number one in Russia by daily reach, according to TNS Web Index. Mail.ru generated revenues of $56 million with EBITDA margin of 64% in 2007. The shareholders of Mail.ru include Internet investment group Digital Sky Technologies (50.5% shares), South African Internet and media group Naspers/MIH (32.6%), private equity firm Tiger Global Management (10%), and the company’s management.
Mail.ru was recently valued at $2 billion. It’s expected to do an IPO in London in 2009.
