Almaz Capital to Acquire 5 Percent Stake in Parallels

The Moscow/Silicon Valley-based venture capital fund, Almaz Capital Russia Fund I has acquired a 5 percent stake in virtualization and automation software vendor Parallels for $11 million, reported business newspaper Kommersant. The stake was previously owned by Insight Venture Partners. As a result, Insight decreased its stake in Parallels to 10 percent.

In June 2005, Parallels (formerly SWsoft) raised VC funding from Insight Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Intel Capital. Founded in 1999, Parallels offers virtualization and automation software that optimizes computing for consumers, businesses, and service providers across all major hardware, operating system, and virtualization platforms. The company has estimated annual revenues of $100 million.

Almaz Capital Russia Fund focuses on investing in technology, media and communications software companies from Russia and managed by Almaz Capital Partners. The fund is run by Alexander “Sasha” Galitsky and Peter Loukianoff.
