Softline Venture Partners, the venture capital fund of leading Russian software distribution and licensing company Softline, has invested $0.1 million for a minority stake in Actio, a Moscow-based developer of hypervideo technology. Actio won Dev Generation 2009 contest that was run by Softline in May 2009.
Founded in October 2008, Actio is developed by 8-person team based in Moscow and Minsk, Belarus. In May 2009, Actio released alpha version of ActioEditor, its downloadable editing software for hypervideo creation. It currently supports Microsoft Silverlight and plans to add a support for Adobe Flash shortly. The company currently test its hypervideo on Tvigle.ru as well as discuss video advertising partnership with Begun contextual advertising service.
Hypervideo or hyperlinked video is a displayed video stream that contains embedded, user clickable anchors, allowing navigation between video and other hypermedia elements. Back in 2001, Philips acquired developer of hypervideo platform Veon.
Launched in late 2008, Softline Venture Partners intends to invest a total of $20 million in independent software developers in Russia, up to $1 million per project.
