The Russian market for mobile content has reached $420 million in the first half of 2009, or 22.6 percent of Russian mobile VAS market (Value-Added Services) of 55 billion rubles ($1.8 billion), reported Prime TASS-BIT. SMS and mobile Internet accounted for 50 percent and 22.5 percent of the mobile VAS market in Russia, respectively.
The Russian mobile VAS market was $3.8 billion (94 billion rubles) in 2008. It is estimated that in 2009 the market will increase in Russian Ruble terms but drop in US$ terms to less than $3 billion due to Ruble devaluation.
The mobile Internet access and mobile commerce services are the fastest growing market segments while ring tones and paid video content segments are stagnating.
