Western Business Angels Invest in WikiMart Online Shopping Mall

The group of Western business angels has invested in Russian online shopping mall WikiMart.

The group included Michael van Swaaij (Skype and eBay Europe); Mark Zaleski and Robert Dighero (QXL ricardo); Suvir Sujan (founder of Baazee), Fabrice Grinda (founder of Aucland, Zingy.com, OLX.com), Alec Oxenford (founder of OLX, DineroMail.com, DeRemate.com); Jose Marin (founder of deRemate.com) and Kerim Baran (founder of Yonja.com). The list was revealed by Kamil Kurmakayev, co-founder of WikiMart in a recent interview to E-xecutive. The investment was made in May-June 2009.

Founded in June 2008 by Stanford MBA students Maxim Faldin and Kamil Kurmakayev, WikiMart was launched into public beta in February 2009. The site, which attracts about 5,000 daily visitors, is based in Moscow and operated by a team of 23. It currently has more than 1,000 online merchants that offer over 370,000 products. WikiMart takes care of merchant’s online shop maintenance, customer acquisition, call-center and delivery services. The site earnes 3 percent of revenues generated by the merchants.
