The leading Ukrainian media group United Media Holding (UMH) has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Russian online sports portal Sports.ru from its founders, reported newspaper RBC Daily. The deal is valued at between $1.5 million and $2.5 million, according to the paper.
Founded in 1998, Sports.ru is one of the leading sports news web-sites in Russia. Sports.ru reported 3 million monthly unique users and 90 million monthly page views last November, according to Google Analytics. Its monthly audience reached 1.4 million, according to TNS Web Index.
UMH publishes the Ukrainian sports daily Komanda and football bi-weekly Futbol. It also owns football site Football.ua.
According to TNS Web index, the total audience of Russian sports web-sites (Sportbox.ru, Sport-Express.ru, Sports.ru, Sovsport.ru, Championat.ru, Eurosport.ru, F1news.ru, and Sport.Rambler.ru) reached 6.2 million in December 2010.
