Cut the Rope candy-eating character Om Nom is getting very popular nowdays. As expected, Kite Ventures-funded Cut the Rope developer ZeptoLab from Russia is partying ways with game publisher Chillingo and franchising in areas other than mobile gaming, just like Angry Birds‘ developer Rovio.
On August 4, Moscow-based ZeptoLab released a sequel, Cut the Rope: Experiments, which became #1 paid app for iPhone and iPad in iTunes App Store the same day. Cut the Rope: Experiments is published by ZeptoLab UK, unlike Cut the Rope that was published by Chillingo. The game Cut the Rope was downloaded over 45 million times including 9 million paid downloads.
ZeptoLab was founded by brothers Semyon and Efim Voinov in 2008. Kite Ventures‘ partner Misha Lyalin is Chairman at ZeptoLab.
ZeptoLab partnered with Ape Entertainment to release a digital comic and graphic novel series based on Om Nom this month. Om Nom plush toys will be released in September.
What is next for ZeptoLab? Should be a massive round of funding to support an expansion. Valuation? 100M+.
