Travel@Mail.ru, a travel section of the leading Russian online portal Mail.ru, has launched a new hotel search. Update: The search now returns results from various online booking services. Its Russian online hotel booking counterpart Oktogo.ru also recently relaunched its hotel search with maps and filters. Travel@Mail.ru offers search of airline tickets and tour packages. The interface of airline ticket search was also updated.
Travel@Mail.ru, which has 3 million monthly visitors, is a leading Russian travel online destination site, with a catalog of tours by countries. Similar, Oktogo.ru offers selection of hotels sorted by destination countries and cities. The web-site has 1 million monthly visitors.
Just like in a recent Linkedin public profile update by a Kayak manager, before a public announcement, a project leader at Travel@Mail.ru has hinted market observers about a new launch in a public comment to a blog post about Russian online travel companies.
Two other major Russian search engines and online portals Yandex and Rambler only offer airline ticket search at Yandex Aviabilety (ticket.yandex.ru) and Rambler-Avia (avia.rambler.ru), respectively. In Russia, the major travel search engines include Aviasales.ru, Skyscanner and Momondo. In 2013, the Russian online travel market will exceed $10 billion, up from $5 billion last year.
