The most popular blog service in Russia, LiveJournal, which is owned by SUP, has revealed a new format for display advertisments on its Russian news blog. Being the 5th most-visited site in Moscow (according to TNS Web Index), the company is looking for more effective ways to monetize its audience.

The publishing house Kommersant agreed to merge its Internet newspaper Gazeta.ru into SUP, the owner of LiveJournal, reported both Gazeta.ru and business daily Kommersant. As a result of non-cash deal, Kommersant will obtain just under 50% stake in SUP and nominate two directors to SUP’s Board.

The leading Russian social networking site Vkontakte has been named top Russian web-site, in the list of top ten Web 2.0 sites in Russia reported by an Eastern European advisory firm GoalEurope, based on data collected by Alexa.

The average Russian blogger is a 22-year old female who lives in Moscow, makes 6 blog posts per month and has nineteen blog “friends”, says a new study on the state of the Russian blogosphere from Yandex.
