World’s largest privately-held Internet security company, Kaspersky Lab is becoming the largest software and Internet company in Russia. The Russian contextual advertising market was up 13% year-on-year to 9.61 billion Rubles ($302 million) in 2009. Yandex holds 78% of the market, ahead of Begun with 11% share and Google with 10% share. The alternative search engines held only 1.3 percent share of searches in Russia in August 2009, reported Vedomosti by citing data from comScore. I have attended the session on Internet advertising at The Russia Forum 2009 today. The panel included CEOs of leading Russian Internet, media and advertising companies: Yandex, Rambler, Odnoklassniki.ru, Kommersant Publishing House, IMHO VI, and the others. The leading Russian search engine Yandex agreed to acquire SMIlink, the leading Russian road traffic information service operating in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
