One out of three Russian internet users goes to online dating sites.
It’s some 10 million users in total but they may not even know that those services are provided by only two companies Mamba and Loveplanet. They together hold 90% of the market valued at $21 million in 2007. The major difference between them is that Mamba counts users from its partner websites while Loveplanet develops itself as a destination site. The online dating sites usually require registration but free to use. The sites generate revenues from premium services such advanced search options, voice messages, top profile locations, etc.

Mamba has 9 million registered users of which 60 thousand are online at any time. Mamba provides its online platform to the leading Russian Internet companies Mail.ru, Rambler, Km.ru, and the others. The company reported revenues of $5.2 million in 1H 2007, up 60% from 1H 2006. Finam, a Moscow-based investment and financial services group acquired Mamba in October 2005.

Loveplanet has 8 million registered users of which 25 thousand are online at any time. Loveplanet also actively develops partner programme with other websites paying money for each registered user. RBC, a Russian media and Internet group acquired a controlling stake in Loveplanet in April 2007.
