The leading European early-stage venture capital firm Mangrove Capital Partners has led $5 million investment round in Oktogo.ru, Russian online hotel booking service. Mangrove‘s partner Mark Tluszcz confirmed the investment on his Twitter. Other investors included ABRT Fund and Ventech.

The so-called “SuperAngels“: Fabrice Grinda (co-founder of OLX), Jose Marin (IG Expansion), Javier Perez-Tenessa (founder of eDreams) and Toivo Annus (founding engineer of Skype) backed the company last fall.

The investment will be used to build the Oktogo.ru brand awareness in Russia and expand its hotel database.

Launched in 2010, Oktogo.ru attracts 10,000 daily visitors. The site earns comission of 10% to 15% on each hotel booking. St. Petersburg-based Oktogo.ru, which is led by founder and CEO Marina Kolesnik, contracted 2,000 hotels in Russia and its neighbors to its online database. Marina Kolesnik previously worked at U.S./St. Petersburg-based software outsourcing company DataArt.

Oktogo.ru competes with Booking.com, Travel@Mail.ru, iGlobe.ru, Tiger Global-funded Anywayanyday and OZON.Travel.

The investment in Oktogo.ru marks Mangroves 5th in Russia after Quintura, Entermedia, KupiVIP and Drimmi. The French venture capital firm Ventech previously invested in Russian women-centric online portal, WomanJournal.ru.
