When Diapers.com was purchased by Amazon for $500 million last November, some investors were so excited that they decided to bet on baby boom around the world. The so-called “SuperAngels“, a group of Western angel investors have funded BabyBoom.ru, a Diapers.com clone for Russia. The investment amount should be in the range of $0.3 million and $0.6 million.
Founded in April 2010, Babyboom is Russian online baby care speciality shop. Babyboom was co-founded by Sergey Kopylov (co-CEO) and Evgene Loginov (co-CEO). Sergey Kopylov was previously Wikimart’s business development director. Evgene Loginov, who worked at Boston Consulting Group, is now Harvard Business School MBA student.
Babyboom shares office location with online shopping mall Wikimart that just raised $7 million from Tiger Global. Both BabyBoom and Wikimart were angel-funded by a group that includes the same investors. This is a group that also invested in Jetsetter.com for Russia, HipClub.ru.
“SuperAngels” have now penetrated the Russian internet market by stealing deals away from local early-stage investors ABRT, Runa Capital, Foresight Ventures and others.
