Yandex Acquisitions Revealed in 2010, 2009 and 2008

When Yandex revealed its IPO price range, out of 52.2 million total shares to be offered at IPO to investors Yandex will issue 15.4 million new shares to raise over $300 million for potential investments and acquisitions in Russia and abroad. Yandex made some acquisitions in 2010, 2009 and 2008.

In August 2010, Yandex invested $3 million in exchange for a 18.4% stake in Face.com service company Vizi Information Labs in Israel. Face.com offers face recognition technology applications on Facebook and other. The Yandex investment will imply Face.com post-money valuation of $16.3 million

In July 2010, Yandex paid $5 million to acquire GIS Technology, a map making company in Moscow. Yandex acquired GIS to develop content in-house for Yandex.Maps (Яндекс.Карты).

In March 2009, Yandex completed $5 million acquisition of the remaining 50% interest in online payment service Yandex.Money (Яндекс.Деньги) from PayCash owners.

In January 2009, Yandex completed $3 million acquisition of display advertising technology assets of Mediaselling ad agency in Moscow.

In September 2008, Yandex completed $4 million acquisition of road traffic monitorring company Smilink (Yandex.Probki). In addition, Yandex granted 112,000 ordinary shares to the sellers as part of the acquisition, which was contingent upon Yandex.Probki achieving certain milestones. That would imply a Smilink acquisition deal value of ca. $6.5 million at IPO terms.
