The leading Russian search engine Yandex has invested several million in Israeli startup Face.com as a part of $4.3 million funding round led by Rhodium investment firm, according to TheMarker and Slon.ru. As a result of the deal that closed last month, Yandex CEO Arkady Volozh joined Face.com Board of Directors.
Founded in 2007, Face.com develops and publishes facial recognition applications PhotoTagger and Photo Finder for social networks based on its own facial recognition technology. The applications allow to tag your photos and find them on social network. Face.com also launched API that allows embedding its facial recognition technology to any web-site.
Face.com previously raised $1 million from Rhodium.
Face.com competitor Polar Rose of Sweden was reportedly acquired by Apple.
