Is Silicon Valley Ignoring The Rest Of The World?

Business Week runs a story today called “” about Andrew Paulson, President of , a Russian company that recently acquired the LiveJournal blogging business for rumored $30 million from SixApart.

One of the key things Andrew mentioned was that SUP had a global perspective that would help it expand the site into other countries. Silicon Valley was ignoring the rest of the world, he said.

The Russian companies have started increasingly investing abroad to bring web expertise into Russia that is going to become the second largest Internet population in Europe by the end of 2008. The recent examples include the Russian financial group Finam buying a stake in the U.K.-based social network Badoo for $30 million and the mobile entertainment service provider Playfon buying out Wappy.to from Denmark.

In the largest Internet deal in Europe this year, Naspers, a South Africa-headquartered media company has offered to acquire (formerly, QXL ricardo), a pan-European online auction for more than $ 2 billion. Naspers has been very acquisitive over the past two years by taking substantial stakes in web properties in the emerging Internet economies of Russia, Poland, and Brasil.

In light of a Microsoft/Yahoo deal, will Silicon Valley be really ignoring the rest of the world?

MS / Yahoo deal is not final yet… in fact Yahoo is talking to Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp right now – they seem to be very shaken by the might of MS and MS’s intentions. Just as Google seems to be (rightfully so). In any case, the question really should be this: is Silicon Valley will continue ignoring the rest of the world in light of the looming recession?
